Apocalypto : A mythic story with stunning Brutality

Image
Mel Gibson's 2006 movie Apocalypto is a stunningly brutal story of Mayan civilization. Though incorrect historically, this film has done a lot in showing the ancient civilization in the most engaging method. The film has given us picture of the set of beliefs different people hold and their tribal cultures. It has also portrayed love of family at the center of all. For the language audio is Mayan, one has to keep an eye on the subtitles.     The director has comprehended a lot of actions of violence into the scenes of the film. We cannot really either accept all that nor can we do otherwise. It is the mastery and art of Mel Gibson.    Apocalypto has a lot to offer to us; apart from the absolute actions in forest areas where men hunt other men, it has also provided some of the most iconic setup for the Mayan civilization, its portrayal of people confusing a mere eclipse for a sign of god is absolutely satisfying. This explains a lot about why th...

The Legacy of Batman

Image
Batman is a story of loss, struggle, success and finally responsibility. No other stories have depicted a more moral and forgiving guy than Batman. With the best villain ever created by Hollywood, the Joker, Batman has raised a very important question of morality. The struggle between The Batman and The Joker to prove oneself right is fantastically presented.     Batman believes profoundly that there is some humane part even in the worst of the criminals and psychopaths. While the Joker is in a firm ground that under certain circumstances even the most noble guy will be immoral. The battle between protagonist and antagonist is purely for their beliefs. The Joker represents the inner devil every person has inside them. The uncontrollable, sadistic, tired figure is the very Joker we see in the film. He is so firm in his belief that he is even ready to give up his life on it. He proves that he is right by converting an all caring heroic Mayor of the city into a disastrously...

Why is fight club one the most influential film ever?

Image
A lot of films are watched and then ditched, never to be looked back again. A lot of other films hold some records and get some prizes, so their name remains for quite a bit. But this film doesn't fit into any of these categories. David Fincher film, Fight Club is extraordinarily unique and gets more discussion than the currently released movies every single day.   Tyler Durden explicitly states "The first rule of Fight Club is; You do not talk about Fight Club". To make it more clear, he states "The second rule of Fight Club is; YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB." But the members of fight club always violate the rule, so do the film lovers. Fight Club is at the top of discussion for every film geeks. Here is a glimpse of it: And here I am, violating the rule because it feels so important to break that rule. It feels that the rule is indirectly suggesting the opposite.    Fight Club has subtle but very powerful hints towards consumerism, the irrele...

Blood Diamond: A powerful story of Empathy

Image
Who cares about how a beautiful piece of diamond is put in a decorated room for sale? What does it take for that stone to have reached to shining your purse? While rich people in Europe are wearing diamond necklaces to impress or to show off, the people in Africa are loosing blood in order to supply them. Humanity has often ignored the toil and sacrifices the labor puts into something. As someone climbs upwards in the hierarchy of needs, he often forgets those who are still struggling for the very first level of needs merely for survival. The story-line is consistent, the acting is masterful, so are the directing and the editing. What I appreciate most about the film is the depth of the characters, most of them didn't fall for the typical Hollywood stereotypes. If they had done anything else it would have just been another formulaic Ron Howard type film.   The transformation of Slolomaon Vandy is from being a poor fisherman in Africa  to...

The Gladiator: Best war movie ever?

Image
Recently, after watching this movie I couldn't control but write about it. From storytelling to acting and to the incredible war genre; everything makes the film more exquisite.         The spaniard(Russel), a well trusted man by the king during the Roman empire is proposed to be King after the death of that king. But of course, the king has a son. How could a prince living an half of his life waiting to be king someday simply submit to his father's idea? So the prince plots against the spaniard ordering his men to kill him and his entire family and burn his village. If this had gone as planned, well the film wouldn't be existing in the first place and secondly, it wouldn't have been interesting enough.     As the spaniard manages to escape by killing the men of the prince, he ends up being a slave fighter. As he was a great warrior earlier, he quickly ascends upwards in the hierarchy of slave fighters. Becoming popular ...

Review: The Prestige

Image
Released:2006 Budget: 40M Box Office: 110M Counted among one of the best film ever, The prestige is that kind of movie you will want to re-watch. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie notably stars Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johnson, Michael Caine. In a Water Tank trick, Borden(Bale) ties hands of Julia under her consent with a riskier slip knot which goes terribly wrong leading to the death of Julia, the dying member also being lover of another crew member Angier(Hugh). The rivalry between Borden and Angier begins here. The film depicts Borden to be in working class and Angier being a high class.  Borden's startup is a solo magic career and hires a silent, mysterious Fallon as an ingeniur; who is later revealed to be his twin giving a different appearance in the public. At his first show, Angier incapacitates the bullet catch trick, as a consequence of which Borden looses two fingers. As a result, the twin brother also has to cut the same two fi...
